Does eating like this lead to obesity or does eating fast foods and junk food lead to obesity? I don't know if eating like this would make someone obese unless they ate it all in one sitting and all the time or they portion their quanities of food and eat one dish per meal at dinnertime or lunchtime. If someone can eat all this in one sitting and continue to eat like this, I would think that it would really be time to think about getting some kind of nutritional help with their eating habits before their habit gets to be harmful to their health.

I would analyze the "social problem" called obesity this way by stating that I belive in this society we tend to eat more than a portion size for one person. Looking at the meals in the picture I woild say that it was a little bit more than one serving. If eating that much daily I see where obesity come from. Also Our choice of healthy food plays a big part.

I think that the "social problem" of obesity has actually a lot to do with what types of food are available to the poorest and working classes of America. You don't see the poorer classes being able to dine at restaurants and eat shrimp, ribs and steak. The poorer classes are typically eating at fast food chains because they are working long hours and trying to feed a family at a reasonable price. Even trying to afford to buy steaks at local groceries stores is much more expensive than cooking a large pot of pasta for the family. Then of course the serving size of pasta isn't the cup it should be, it's the whole plate. If healthier foods were more affordable, maybe more people would go to grocery stores and buy them instead of purchasing cheaper unhealthy products or hitting fast food chains out of ease. That's not to say people who can afford to eat healthy do- quite the opposite. Many americans eat a lot of food as our portion control is out of hand. I think a lot of americans want it all and food is no exception.

Obesity has become a big social problem in our society today. There are many factors that contribute to obesity. Genetics plays a role. Many people are working longer hours so they are eating more fast foods. Portion Control plays a part in obesity. The picture shows alot of food for one sitting. Eating that much on a continuous basis will add weight on. Obesity is not only harmful physically but also emotionally.

If each of these plates is one dinner, I don't think it would lead to obesity; however, if all three dishes were one meal, that could very well lead to a problem.

Obesity is a big social problem. Let's face it, we all love and have to eat! I think genetics plays a big role. Some people can eat whatever they want and not gain a pound while others can just look at food and gain weight.

The media plays a huge role with obesity in many contradictive ways. On one hand they promote the anorexic looking actress/model that makes every young girl think something is wrong with them if they don't live up to that standard; This is a huge social problem in High School--on the other hand, they promote super-sized on-the-go meals and unhealthy foods.

I also blame society because in order to survive financially, families usually need two incomes. Both parents are tired from working all day. Cooking would just add one more thing to their already full workload. They go to the fast-food drive-thru so they can feed their kids because taking time to cook would cut into the schedule of homework (3-4 hours in HS), bath time, and an appropriate bedtime. Fast-food is rarely healthy or low in calories.

Electronics and technology are also to blame. Children and adults sit and play video games, watch TV, play around with the computer, talk on the phone, text message, etc. instead of engaging in physical activity. Gone are the days when children just went outside and played all day!

Obesity is a big problem (no pun intended), that usually leads to major health problems along with psychological issues.

Live to eat or eat to live? That is the question. The problem with society is laziness and lack of self-discipline. There is a fine line between obesity and gluttony. But in the U.S. there is neither becuase food is not scarce. Therefore society will keep on chowing down. However there is so much factor in regards of this disorder. It could be tradition, heritage, genetics, most definetly medical, and of course what you eat.

When it comes to tradition such as family style dinners its like gonig to a buffet the food does not stop.

Genetics! Some people eat a doughnut and goes straight to their love nugs. And then there is those that are like a garbage disposal eat everything and is still thin like a toothpick.

Then it all comes down to medical reason and the type of food you eat. Got diabetes eat less sugar. High blood pressure eat less salt. Low iron eat more meat and protein.

It all comes down to self-discipline. I have seen people live off of Fast Food joints and still have a rock hard body with 4%body fat. But once you stop either excercizing or watching what you eat that is when it will hit you. Just like the tv show the "Biggest Loser" People who got off the show continue on and they lost weight. Those who don't keep up with it gain it back or weighs more.

Obesity is a gobal problem, it is increasing at an alarming rate throughtout the world. Obesity is affecting men, women, and even children. There are a number of factors that contributed to obesity such as age, genes, gender, and socio-economic status, even though it seems like people from lower socio-ecomonic status suffer due to the food that is avaliable to them, and therefore it is considered as a social problem.
